September 12 of 12

My actual blog is here but it wouldn't let me post the pictures how I wanted. So here we go...

This is the September edition of the 12 of 12. Check out this blog for the 411 and other 12 of 12'ers around the world.

My September 12 of 12.

8:20 am.
My morning routine: getting ready for work. Might look like a torture device, but its one of the best little wonders ever. No kidding.

8:30 am.
Roxie's morning routine. Outside? Yes please!

Float like a Caddilac, Sting like a Beemer. This is Kathleen. She's my baby.

8:55 am. On my way to work. Takes a whole 2 minutes to get there.

9:10 am.
Did someone say coffee?

This is the wall in our office. Quite a few hours went into this project. Built the wall, sheetrock, taped off, painted...Sigh. But, its awesome.

11:15 am
My messy office. Seriously, if everything was clean, I wouldn't be able to operate.

3:30 pm
Here I am at job #2. Had the office to myself today. Got to play with a new program in photoshop called QuickMats. It pretty sweet.

8 pm
Taco Tuesday at Rosa's!

10:30 pm
Taking Roxie for a short walk.

10:33 pm
Checking the mail. Yep. Credit card application. I can hardly contain myself.

10:55 pm
Watching America's Funniest Home Videos. That Bob Saget, he's such a hunk. (hahahahha) Gotta have something a little wholesome after Nip/Tuck.

*Bonus*
Taking my Nip/Tuck break with champagne and a smoke. Is it just me or is that show out of control this season? Dang...

i can name that tune in...

DIRECTIONS:
1. Go to your iTunes playlist - or whatever's on your computer.
2. Hit shuffle.
3. Choose the first 13 songs - YOU CANNOT SKIP ONE. If it's embarrassing you just have to live with it.
4. With those 13 songs you must post your favorite lyric from each of the songs.
5. See if anybody can guess what songs they are from. If they are guessed you can cross them out. Try to get rid of all of them. Have fun!

1. 'Will you meet me in the middle, will you meet me in the air? Will you love me just a little, just enough to show you care?'
2. 'I'm two quarters and a heart down, and I don't want to forget how your voice sounds'
3. 'even when my girls don't understand, i choose you as my man'
4. 'I was lost in a rage, didn’t ever mean to be. Now the cost has set the stage and it will bury me.'
5. 'I just want to stay dreaming, no I just don't want to wake.
6. 'Say you're in love, in love, with this guy If not I'll just die'
7. 'But love is blind and little did I know, you were just another dead end road '
8. ' Concrete shoes... cyanide... T.N.T.... done dirt cheap! Ooh! Neckties... contracts... high voltage! Done dirt cheap!'
9. 'For the life of me, I cannot remember what made us think that we were wise and we'd never compromise'
10. 'And our lives are forever changed, we will never be the same. The more you change the less you feel.'The more you change the less you feel.'
11. 'So your'e gone, but I know you're not so far away. You're a call on the phone or a ride on a plane, but that just isn't the same.'
12. ' If we make it past the border, we will scatter, vanish just like smoke in autumn wind. I will run until my color will not matter, hopin’ I can find some work or possibly a friend'
13. 'Please, please, please. Come on and sing to me.'

Guano bowls! Collect the whole set...

Found an interesting article on CNN.com today:

When it comes to bats, size matters

Tuesday, January 24, 2006

SYRACUSE, New York (AP) -- For some male bats, sexual prowess comes with a price -- smaller brains.

A research team led by Syracuse University biologist Scott Pitnick found that in bat species where the females are promiscuous, the males boasting the largest testicles also had the smallest brains. Conversely, where the females were faithful, the males had smaller testes and larger brains.

"It turns out size does matter," said Pitnick, whose findings were published in December in "Proceedings of the Royal Society: Biological Science," an online journal.

The study offers evidence that males -- at least in some species -- make an evolutionary trade-off between intelligence and sexual prowess, said David Hoskens, a biologist at the Center for Ecology and Conservation at the University of Exeter in England and a leading authority on bats' mating behavior.

"Bats invest an enormous amount in testis, and the investment has to come from somewhere. There are no free lunches," said Hoskens, who did not participate in the study.

The relationship between the breeding system and relative brain size has received little investigation, said Pitnick, who teaches evolution and population biology and researches topics such as sexual selection and sexual conflict.

Bats are the second largest group of mammals (behind rodents) with about 1,000 known species. Because of their exceptional navigational and flying abilities, bats have been the subject of countless studies, providing Pitnick and his colleagues -- Kate Jones of Columbia University and Gerald Wilkinson of the University of Maryland -- with a bounty of data without having to slink off into caves.

Pitnick's team looked at 334 species of bats and found a convincing contrast in testes size. In species with monogamous females, males had testes starting at 0.11 percent of their body weight and ranging up to 1.4 percent.

But in species where the females had a large number of mates, Pitnick found testes ranged from 0.6 percent to 8.5 percent of the males' mass (in the Rafinesque's big-eared bat).

"If female bats mate with more than one male, a sperm competition begins," Pitnick said. "The male who ejaculates the greatest number of sperm wins the game, and hence many bats have evolved outrageously big testes."

Promiscuity is known to make a difference in testicle size in some other mammals. For example, chimpanzees are promiscuous and have testicles that are many times larger than those of gorillas, in which a single dominant male has exclusive access to a harem of females.

Large brains, meanwhile, are metabolically costly to develop and maintain.

Pitnick's research suggested that in those bat species with promiscuous females, the male's body used more of its energy to enhance the testes -- giving it the greater adaptive advantage -- and lacked the energy it needed to further develop the brain.

The study found that in more monogamous species, the average male brain size was about 2.6 percent of body weight, while in promiscuous species, the average size dipped to 1.9 percent.

My response to this? The females bats whored around on the bats with the bigger goods, BUT were faithful and true to the ones with the bigger brains. So there you go. Do with it what you will. Oh...and a cookie to those of you who know where my title came from.

Catch the live show...

I love concerts. Plain and simple.

Anytime I get the opportunity to see someone live, I'll probably do it. Granted, I need to at least have an interest in the band, but that's all it takes. My all-time favorite place to see a concert is Nokia Live in Grand Prairie, TX. Its amazing! No matter where you sit, you feel close to the action. I've seen 5 shows there: Travis Tritt, Kelly Clarkson & Clay Aiken, the American Idol tour (3rd season), Sting, and James Taylor. I'll be going there to see Fall Out Boy, The All-American Rejects, Hawthorne Heights, and The Hush Boys in March.

My favorite shows (in no particular order): James Taylor, Sting, America, Edwin McCain, John Mayer & Maroon5, Robert Earl Keen, Dixie Chicks, Bryan White, Snoop Dogg (yes, i saw him).

Other cool people I've seen: Willie Nelson, Pat Green, Jack Ingram, Brooks & Dunn, Caedmon's Call, Jars of Clay, Michael W. Smith, dc Talk, Watermark, Third Day, David Crowder Band, N'Sync, Pink, Sisqo, Bush, No Doubt, Counting Crows, Paula Cole, and I know there are some I'm forgetting.

People I'm dying to see: Hootie & the Blowfish, Aerosmith, Dave Mathews, Eric Clapton, the Eagles, Hootie & the Blowfish, Alanis Morrisette, Big & Rich, Coldplay, Damien Rice, oh, and Hootie & the Blowfish.

Man, I love concerts.

WW Update--Week 2

I gained 0.6 lbs this week.

No worries, normal weight loss is 1-2lbs per week, so I'm still doing well. It would probably help if I actually started going to my martial arts class again. I've been awol for 2 weeks!

Discipline! Discipline I say!

Concrete!

Phase 3 of our office remodel is happening right now, as I type. We pulled up all the carpet a few weeks ago, in hopes to stain the existing foundation. However, whoever layed the carpet, decided to do a full glue, and it was freakin impossible to scrape it all up. SO, we decided to pour a 2 inch slab of concrete, which actually works out better, because it fixes the uneven entrances to our office. Someone actually fell and dropped their computer one day coming in the door. (Which was ridiculous because it plainly states on the door: Watch Your Step). Anyways, the concrete people are here and are ankle deep in it.

I reeeeeeaaally wanna play in it. It looks fun. AND when it dries a little, I wanna stick my hand or foot (or something else) in it. Leave my mark, you know.

Hmm.....

a new year...

Ok. I've decided to take you, my bloggers, with me on my weight-loss journey.

I've done Weight Watchers before, and I honestly think its the best system out there. There are no food restrictions, you can eat whatever you want. And none of that pre-packaged "food" crap. I lost about 40lbs initially with WW, and it really wasn't that hard. I've gained some of that back, mostly as muscle (as most of my post-weight-loss clothes still fit), but I'd like to lose more. My first goal is 25 lbs, and then I'll decide where I want to go from there. SO, every thursday I'll give an update.

So I weighed in today and lost 4lbs since last week! 4!! I feel awesome. Plus, I'm lookin hot today. New dress, pink pointy toe heels. And tomorrow is friday! Yesssss!

the best game ever

Mom--this post is for you.

If you saw the game last night, I'm sure you agree with me. Wow. The whole 4th quarter was intense. I am by no means a Longhorn fan, but I did cheer for them last night, and got pretty rowdy in the process.

My Mom was absolutely beside herself with joy. I called her right after Vince ran 18 yards for that touchdown in the last minute of the 4th, and there was no 'hello?' it was just screaming. (hahaha) We watched the last 19 seconds of the game together (on the phone), and as soon as it was over, I could here the panic alarm going off on the car, and she was outside running around with her UT flag. Yeah, football is important where I come from. She (along with my grandpa) is probably the biggest UT fan in Oklahoma, and I am probably the biggest OU fan in Texas.

All I can say is, when you've got so many OU fans pulling for Texas to win.....our hatred for USC is pretty dang high. Yay for the fall of a 'dynasty' as sportscenter puts it. (Btw, I think they might as well have put a 'U' in front of their SportsCenter 'SC' logo, as much as they hailed that team this year). So much for the Heisman winner, what was his name again....Ronald, Randy, Reggie....oh I don't remember. Doesn't matter anyway.

The question now is, will Vince enter the draft? Or will he stay with Texas one more year, and go for the gold, ahem, I mean the Heisman trophy. For my team's sake (and for the sake of the Houston Texans), I hope he does.
